What is Dyno Testing?
Dyno testing evaluates the engine power of a vehicle by measuring the torque and rotational speed. It involves strapping the vehicle securely onto the dynamometer (aka dyno or rolling road) which is setup according to the testing requirements by adjusting the load to simulate resistance (like you’d experience when driving on the roads). The dyno then records data including the torque, power and speed of the vehicle. A print-out of the results is then provided.

How much do dyno tests cost?
Dyno testing starts from £50.
At The Vehicle Doctor we offer three options:
- Dyno run experience day: £50
- 1-2-1 dyno run: £120
- Dyno run and stage 1 remap: £300
Our dyno run experience days are typically held monthly and give you the opportunity to bring your vehicle down to our facility and test its power.
For a more personal experience you can also book a 1-2-1 dyno test where we can spend a bit more time discussing the test with you.
If you are also looking for a remap, the best option is to book the dyno test and stage 1 remap package. This costs £70 less overall compared to booking each service individually.

What do the dyno results mean?
Dyno test results are presented as a graph which shows the power and torque of the vehicle through the full rev range. When dyno testing is performed before and after a remap, the results are typically overlaid so you can see the difference. In addition to the graph, you also will get measurements of the engine power and torque. Please see the example below.
We provide free print-outs of the dyno test results at both our experience days and 1-2-1 tests.
How long does a dyno test take?
Most dyno tests are actually pretty quick, with the test itself typically taking less than 5 minutes. Including the process of strapping the vehicle in and setting up the software, the dyno testing process usually takes around 30 minutes in total per vehicle.
How accurate is dyno testing?
Dyno testing is a reliable and precise way of testing the power of a vehicle, however it is not 100% accurate and the results can vary between dynamometers. This is why it’s very important to use the same dyno to measure the power before and after a remap for the most accurate results.
Here at The Vehicle Doctor we have invested in over £50,000 of equipment to make our testing as accurate as we can. We use a Dynomax dynamometer which can accurately measure FWD, RWD, and 4×4 cars with up to 1200 horsepower.
Dynomax dynamometers have a heavy-duty chassis, advanced mechanical parts & electronics, and simplicity in construction. Dynomax rollers also have excellent inertial mass and traction for accurate engine power measurements.
